(A) Given,
ABCD is a rectangle
Dimensions of rectangle,
Length, l = AB = 12 cm
Height, h = AD = 7 cm
Dimensions of triangle,
Height, h = 4 cm
Base, b = AD = 7 cm
Area of rectangle = l × b
= 12 × 7
= 84 cm²
Area of triangle = 1/2 × h × b
= 1/2 × 4 × 7
= 2 × 7
= 14 cm
Area of shaded portion = ar(rectangle) - ar(∆)
= 84 - 14
= 70 cm²
(B) Given,
ABCD is a parallelogram
Dimensions of parallelogram,
Base, b = AB = 16 m
Height, h = 10 m
Dimensions of triangle,
Base, b = 16 - 10 = 6 m
Height, h = 10 m
Area of parallelogram = b × h
= 16 × 10
= 160 m²
Area of triangle = 1/2 × b × h
= 1/2 × 6 × 10
= 3 × 10
= 30 m²
Area of shaded portion
= ar( parallelogram) - ar(∆)
= 160 - 30
= 130 m²
(C) Given,
ABCD is a parallelogram
Dimensions of parallelogram,
Base, b = 30 m
Height, h = 20 m
Dimensions of square,
side, s = 6 m
Area of parallelogram = b × h
= 30 × 20
= 600 m²
Area of square = s²
= 6 × 6
= 36 m²
Area of shaded portion
= ar(parallelogram) - ar(square)
= 600 - 36
= 564 m²
