Money Mitchel received from Peter = 200

  • If the amount Peter had was X
  • The amount Peter gave to Mitchel is X/4
  • The amount that Mitchel gave to Sam is (1/2)x(X/4) = X/8
  • The amount remaining with Peter will be 3X/4
  • The difference between the  remaining amount with Peter and the amount received by Sam is (3X/4)-(X/8) = 5X/8 = 500
  • Therefore, X = 500 x 8/5 = 800
  • i.e., Amount Mitchel received = 800/4 = 200
