Holmes was very conscious that there would definitely be a falsely accused person because there were still many missing factors. Holmes was motivated by the simple way of reputation. He would be more frequently called up if he was an extremely experienced detective (just as he is right now). Holmes was changed in this chapter by his reaction to the truth of the crime. When he saw James Ryder confess and run away sobbing, he reacted in a more subtle matter by saying that he'll let it go for now. From all of his characteristics, he is a new person now because he has experienced some more complex mysteries. Analyzing this info, Holmes is observant, clever, easy going, and experienced.
