After addition of acid, an alcohol is obtained. Grignard reagents also add to carbon dioxide (CO2) to form carboxylates, in a reaction similar to their reactions with ketones and aldehydes. This means that instead of adding to the carbonyl, they react with the proton instead and form the carboxylate salt.
