Answer:

Zinc is a metal . It has atomic number of 30 and it is in group 12 and period 4 of the perodic table. .

Physical properties of zinc metal are -

  • It has density of 7.13 g/cm³ and its color is bluish-white.

  • It has a melting point of 420 °C and its elasticity and malleability increases when heated to approximately 100 °C .

  • It has a boiling point of 906 °C and

at temperatures above 200 °C it loses its elasticity and becomes a grey powder.

  • It has high heat capacity and heat conductivity that is it is a good conductor.

Chemical properties of Zinc are -

  • zinc reacts rapidly with air, gradually forming a dull grey zinc oxide coating.

  • zinc also reacts with halogens, oxygen, chalcogens, alkalis, acids, ammonia and ammonium salts, and even with less active metals.

  • Zinc reacts with both acids and alkalis, making it an amphoteric metal. When reacting with alkalis, the element forms complex compounds known as hydroxo-zincates.
