Carboxylic acids have high boiling points
The chief chemical characteristic of the carboxylic acids is their acidity. They are generally more acidic than other organic compounds containing hydroxyl groups
Smaller carboxylic acids (1 to 5 carbons) are soluble in water, whereas higher carboxylic acids
There are very many carboxylic acids. All have in common the -COOH group which can be attached to almost any group, usually designated as 'R', so a carboxylic acid is RCOOH
