Main clause can express a complete thought and can make sense by itself. whereas a subordinate or dependent clause cannot express a complete thought.  Subordinate clause begins with subordinate conjunctions like because, after, even though, whenever etc and relative pronouns like who, whom, which, whoever, whomever, whichever etc.

1) Had she been honest, she wouldn't have faced this humiliation.

Main clause : She wouldn't have faced this humiliation.

Subordinate clause : Had she been honest.

2) The teacher, who motivates students is always remembered.

Main clause : The teacher.

Subordinate clause : Who motivates students is always remembered.
