Participle is a type of non-finite verb. Non-finite verbs are those verbs that remain unchanged in any type of tense. Their form remains the same. They do not inflect. There are three types of non-finite verbs: 1. Infinitives 2. Gerunds 3. Participles

The participle in the given sentence ‘the hermit was sowing seeds in the bed’ is ‘sowing’.  

It can be used in a sentence as shown below:

The farmers were sowing seeds for the new crop in the fields.
