Pickel is stored in ceramic jars but not in earthren jars . Why

Ceramic jars do not allow the entry of moisture, keeping the pickle fresh.But on the other hand, if case of earthen jars, they allow the entry of water vapour through the pores in the boundaries and this may spoil the pickle.
