Given : Pipe A and B requires 80 minutes to fill the tank,

pipe A and C requires 48/7 minutes to fill up the whole tank.

drain pipe is Pipe B requires 20 minutes to drain the whole tank

To Find : how much more efficient is pipe C when compared to pipe A

Solution:

Pipe B requires 20 minutes to drain the whole tank

=> pipe B in 1 min = - 1/20

Pipe A and B requires 80 minutes to fill the tank

=> 1/A + 1/B  = 1/80

=> 1/A  -  1/20   = 1/80

=> 1/A  = 1/80 + 1/20

=> 1/A  = 1/16

=> A  requires 16 mins

A and C requires 48/7 minutes to fill up the whole tank.

1/A  + 1/C  = 1/(48/7)

=> 1/16 + 1/C = 7/48

=> 1/C  = 7/48 - 1/16

=> 1/C = 1/12

=> C = 12

C  requires 12 mins

A' 1 min work  =  1/16

C' 1 min   work  = 1/12

C' 1  Extra work in 1  min  = 1/12  - 1/16   =  1/48

C  more efficient  = (1/48)/(1/16)  * 100  = 33.33  %

33.33  %  more efficient is pipe C when compared to pipe A
