Answer:

Answer : 180 hrs.

Step-by-step explanation:

Time to fill a tank by Pipe A = 36 hrs.

So, time to fill a tank by Pipe A in 1 hr = 1/36.

Similarily, time to empty a tank by Pipe B  = 45 hrs.

Time to empty a tank by Pipe B in 1 hr = 1/45.

Total work in 1 hr = 1/36 - 1/45

                            =  1/180.

Therefore,

Time taken to fill/empty a tank  when both the tanks are opened simultaneously = 1/1/180 = 180 hrs.
