reason is due to difference in water potential
Water always moves from higher water potential to lower water potential,so in hypotonic due to difference in water and solute potential water moves inside cell causing it to swell..

Plants are enclosed by rigid cell wall. When plant cell is placed in hypotonic solution it take up water by osmosis and starts to swell but the cell wall is preventing it from bursting. The plant cell is said to have become "turgid".
