The ultimate source of the energy in food is the sun. The movement of energy from the sun through different organisms is what creates a food chain. Plants get their energy directly from the sun. Other animals eat plants and gain energy, and humans eat both plants and animals. Thus, plants are the ultimate source of food.

Ultimately, though, the sun was the original energy source, no matter what we are eating.plants absorbs sun light energy and it converts to chemical energy through photosynthesis. The sun gives 100℅ energy only 1℅ is convert to energy, the remaining are not assimilated and for respiration.
