plants who use and prepare food themselves prepare them in the simplest form. i.e they makethe food into glucose which they can directly use to make energy. but they convert this glucose into different forms such as starch for storage as glucose is very easily soluble in water. we need a digestive system because because we cannot utilize these complex forms of glucose like starch and need to digest them into simple forms, like glucose, and amino acids.
