1. Preperation : Prepared by heating gypsum (CaSO4.2H2O) to a temperature of 100 degree Celcius in a Kiln.

CaSo4.2H2O --> CaSO4.1/2H2o + 3/2H2O

2. Properties : POP is a white powder which on mixing with water forms solid mass called gypsum.

3. Uses :

• Used in hospitals to set fractures
• Used in making toys, decorative materials
• Used as a fire proofing material
• Used in chemistry labs to seal gaps in apparatus
• Used to make smoot surfaces and casts for statues.
