Plate tectonics theory is a theory that states that the outer layer of the earth which is the lithosphere, is divided into "plates" that move across the earth's surface. This theory also states that there are eight major plates and a huge number of minor plates in the earth's lithosphere, which are constantly shifting at about 50-100 mm per year.

Scientist tried to find the reason behind the formation of physical features for that they gave,"theory of tectonic plates".

•According to this theory the earth crust is formed with seven major and minor plates known as tectonic plates

The 7 tectonics plates are

i)Pacific

ii)African

iii)Eurasian

iv)South American

vi)North American

vii)Indo-Australian

3 movements in plates are

1.Convergent:When two plates move towards each other

2.Divergent:When two plates move away from each other

3.Transform:When two plates slide over one another
