WHAT ARE PLATELETS?

  • Platelets are tiny blood cells that help your body form clots to stop bleeding.

HOW DO PLATELETS HELP?

  • If one of your blood vessels gets damaged, it sends out signals to the platelets.
  • The platelets then rush to the site of damage.
  • They form a plug (clot) to fix the damage.

Answer:

  • Platelets disintegrate at the site of wound to release a substance thrombokinase.
  • Thrombokinase acts as an enzyme, with help of calcium ions converts inactive prothrombin to active thrombin.
  • Thrombin in presence of calcium ions reacts with soluble Fibrinogen to convert it to insoluble Fibrin.
  • This fibrin forms mess at the wound and blood clotting is done.

hope it helps..
