actually platypus and echidna belong to mammals . they can lay eggs . egg laying mammals are known as monotreme . I think they must have all the common characters that every mammal have like - cold- blooded ,locomotion through limbs respiration through lungs etc .

Platypus' scientific name is Ornithorhynchus.

The characters that both platypus and echnida may have are the following :

1. They have a gland that produces milk. This gland is called mammary gland. This gland helps them to orovide nourishment to their babies.

2. Also, their skin is distinctive from the skin of other animals as mammals have hairs present on the skin.

3. In their heart, there are 4 chambers.

4. Many kinds of teeth are there in them attached to the jaw.

5. Platypus lays eggs, so they fall under the category of oviparous.
