Ethanol on heating with concentrated sulphuric acid  H2SO4 at 170 degree C loses a water molecule giving ethene.

CH3CH2OH + 2 Na-----conc H2SO4-------CH2=CH2+H2O

Unsaturated hydrocarbons adds hydrogen in presence of catalysts to foem saturated hydrocarbon

Thus ,Ethene adds a molecule of hydrogen to form ethane

CH2=CH2+H2 ----ni catalysts-----CH3-CH3
