During the 15th century in the city of Genoa Italy, there was a coarse cotton-wool or linen blend fabric by the same name as the city – Genoa. It is believed that maybe this is the ancestor of the modern day Jeans by the similarity of their names. Genoa was a fabric used for making clothes for the sailors in Italy.
Hope it helps

Hi there,
Following is your answer
The kind of fabric that was used in the previous times was thick and the kind of jeans that we have now. It was used for making uniforms for the military. It was named after the place they were initially produced and invented in and that is Genoa. Later is was name as a modern word called jeans.
