QUESTION:

An obserever 1 m tall is 20 m away from a tower. The angle of elevation of the top of the tower from his eyes is 45°, then the height of the tower is.

ANSWER:

  • OPTION B) 21 m.

GIVEN:

  • The obserever. is 1 m tall.

  • He is 20 m away from the tower.

  • The angle of elevation is 45°.

TO FIND:

  • The height of the tower.

EXPLANATION:

Tan θ = Opposite side / Adjacent side

Opposite side = DE

Adjacent side = EC

Tan 45° = DE / EC

EC = AB = 20 m

Tan 45° = 1

1 = DE / 20

DE = 20 m

Height (h) = DE + AE

AE = Height of the man = 1 m

h = DE + AE = 20 + 1 = 21 m.

Hence the height of the tower = 21 m.
