Step-by-step explanation:

In FGH ,

by Pythagoras theorem , (GH)²+(FH)²=(GF)²

5²+(FH)²=13²

25+(FH)²=169

(FH)²=169-25

(FH)²=144

FH=144

FH=12

FH=EC=12cm as they have same lengths.

Area of the rectangle ABEF=b

(8+12)×(17)

=20×17

=340 cm²

Area of triangle GHF=b/2

=13×12/2

=156/2

=78 cm²

As there are two triangles , the area will be doubled,

2(78)=156 cm²

Total area of the given figure=340cm²+156 cm²

=496 cm²
