So, both the hindu and Muslim soldiers opposed that which turned that it into a conflagration.

a) Political, social, economic, military and other factors contributed to the making of the revolt of 1857. When the atmosphere was charged with an anti-British feelings the episode of the greased cartridges provided the spark which turned into a conflagration.

b) After the 1857 revolt, the British understood the symbolic importance of Delhi for the Indians. Hence, they choose to hold a grand durbar in Delhi although it was not the capital.
