Question :

For x = 3/7 and y = -5/11 ,

verify that ( -x ) + ( -y ) = - ( x+y )

Given :

  • \sf\:x\:=\:\frac{3}{7}

  • \sf\:y\:=\:\frac{-5}{11}

To :

  • Verify whether ( -x ) + ( -y ) = - ( x+y )

Solution :

\sf\color{olive}{⛥}For this question we need to substitute the given values of x and y. Plugging the values and proceeding with simple calculations if we get LHS = RHS our given equation would be verified.

\bf\color{red}{⋆}\sf\:(-x)+(-y)=-(x+y)

Plugging the values of x and y

\sf\twoheadrightarrow\:(-\frac{3}{7})+[-(\frac{-5}{11})]=[-(\frac{3}{7})+(-\frac{5}{11})]

\sf\twoheadrightarrow\:(-\frac{3}{7})+[+\frac{5}{11}]=-(\frac{3}{7}-\frac{5}{11})

\sf\twoheadrightarrow\:-\frac{3}{7}+\frac{5}{11}=-\frac{3}{7}+\frac{5}{11}

Calculating LCM of -

  • 7 and 11 in LHS = 77 , also
  • 7 and 11 in RHS = 77

\sf\twoheadrightarrow\:\frac{(-3 \times 11)+(7 \times 5)}{77}=\frac{(-3 \times 11)+(7 \times 5)}{77}

\sf\twoheadrightarrow\:\frac{(-33)+35}{77}=\frac{(-33)+35}{77}

\sf\twoheadrightarrow\:\frac{-33+35}{77}=\frac{-33+35}{77}

\sf\twoheadrightarrow\:\frac{2}{77}=\frac{2}{77}

Cross multiplying

\sf\twoheadrightarrow\:77 \times 2=2 \times 77

\sf\twoheadrightarrow\:154=154

\sf\color{teal}{\twoheadrightarrow\:LHS~=~RHS}

Hence Verified !~
