denominator be y

Given :

x + y = 18 ..... (1)

x/y+2 = 1/3

x = ( y. + 2)/3 .....(2)

From (1) & (2)

(y + 2/3 )+ y = 18

(y + 2 ) + 3y = 18 * 3

4y + 2 = 54

4y = 54 - 2

4y = 52

y = 52/4

y = 13

From (1)

x + y = 18

x + 13 = 18

x = 18 - 13

x = 5

Therefore, the fraction is 5/13
