Answer:

a)  -18/23 , -2/3

LCM of 23 and 3 = 23 x 3 (since both are already prime numbers and cannot be prime factorized)

= 69

-18/23 x 3/3 , -2/3 x 23/23

= -54/69 , -46/69

Since the numerators are negative: -54 < -46

- 54/69 < -46/69

Therefore, -18/23 < -2/3

b) -1/3 , 4/5

Any positive fraction is greater than a negative fraction,

Thus , -1/3 < 4/5

Although if you want steps:

LCM of 3 and 5 = 3 x 5 (since they are both prime numbers and cannot be prime factorized)

= 15

-1/3 x 5/5 , 4/5 x 3/3

= -5/15 , 12/15

Since -5 < 12

-5/15 < 12/15

Therefore, -1/3 < 4/5

c) -7/8 , 0

Since any negative fraction is lesser than zero: -7/8 < 0

Also this sum cannot be solved using LCM method since any number multiplied by 0 = 0

d) -21/22 , -23/24

When the denominator is the successor (that is the number coming after) of the numerator in both the fractions, the fraction with the higher numerator and denominator has less value than the one with the lesser numerator and denominator. Thus,

-21/22 > -23/24

Steps:

To find LCM of 22 and 24

prime factors of 22 -----> 22/2 = 11

                                         11/11 = 1

= 2 x 11

prime factors of 24 -----> 24/2 = 12

                                         12/2 = 6

                                         6/2 = 3

                                         3/3 = 1

= 2 x 2 x 2 x 3

LCM = 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 x 11            (Since 2 is common once, we will take the first 2 of 22 and 24 as a single number)

= 264

- 21/22 x 12/12 , -23/24 x 11/11

= -252/264 , -253/264

Since both numerators are negative: -252 > -253

-252/264 > -253/264

Therefore,

-21/22 > -23/24
