We know that sodium and potassium are such elements which can \textbf{react} with oxygen present in air, hence to cut out supply of oxygen rich air from them they are stored in kerosene oil.

Sodium and potassium are dipped into kerosene oil because they are most reactive elements and can also react even at room temperature so to prevent that we do it.
