x=man's age
y=son's age

as per first condition,
3y = x (i)

as per second condition,
2(y+12) = x+12
2y+24 = 3y+12 (from i)
3y-2y = 24-12
y = 12

x = 3y
x = 3(12)
x = 36

man = x

Son = y

x = 3y (given)  ---------- (1)

After 12 years

x + 12  = (y+12)2 (given)

Apply 1 for x

3y + 12 = 2y + 24

3y - 2y = 24 - 12

y = 12

So son's age = 12

Now man

x = 3y = 3 x 12 = 36

So man = 36

Hiteshbehera74: *x=3y
littyissacpe8b60: x = 3y because they told mans' age is three time of son
littyissacpe8b60: three times of son = 3 x y = 3y
littyissacpe8b60: Got it?
Hiteshbehera74: how can son's age be more
littyissacpe8b60: no in my answer son has only 12 and man's age 36
littyissacpe8b60: a(man) = (is) 3 (three times) x(of) y(his son's age). which means a = 3y
Hiteshbehera74: yes yes understood
littyissacpe8b60: ok
littyissacpe8b60: :)
