Answer :-

  • 2 m/s²

Given: -

  • Initial speed of body is 18 km/hr
  • And the body stopped by application of brakes i.e Final velocity is 0
  • Time taken is 2.5 s

i.e

  • u = 18km/hr
  • v = 0
  • t = 2.5 s

To find : -

  • Retardation

Solution: -

Firstly As they given the initial speed in km/hr We shall convert into m/s

1km/hr = 5/18 m/s

18 km/hr = 18×5/18

= 5m/s

So,

u = 5m/s

As we know the Retardation is negative of acceleration So, firstly we find acceleration of the body

Acceleration is defined as , Change in velocity per time

So,

A = Change in velocity/Time

A = (Final velocity-Initial velocity)/Time

a = v-u /t

Substituting the values,

a = 0-5 /2.5

a = -5 /25/10

a = -5(10)/25

a = -50/25

a = -2m/s²

So, Retardation will be the -(-2) m/s² = 2 m/s²

So, Retardation of the body is 2m/s²
