Area of Triangle = 1/2 × base × height = 12 cm^2
12 cm^2 = 1/2 × 6 × X
12 cm^2 = 3X
12/3 = X
X = 4
Thus height = 4cm.

Height = 4cm = AD
Since E is the midpoint of AD
Therefore, DE = 1/2 AD = 1/2 × 4
DE = 2
Base = 6 - 3 = 3

Therefore area of shaded region
= 1/2 × base × height
= 1/2 × 3 × 4
= 1/2 × 12
= 6 cm^2

Hope this helps you!
