Solution :-

we know that,

  • A quadratic equation with sum and product of roots can be written as :- x² - (sum of zeros)x + product of zeros = 0 .

given that,

  • zeroes of the polynomial are = ɑ and 1/ɑ .

so,

  • sum of zeros = (ɑ + 1/ɑ) = {(ɑ² + 1) / ɑ} .
  • product of zeros = ɑ * 1/ɑ = 1 .

then,

→ ax² + bx + c = x² - (sum of zeros)x + product of zeros .

→ ax² + bx + c = x² - {(ɑ² + 1) / ɑ}x + 1

comparing we get,

  • a = 1
  • b = (-ɑ² - 1) / ɑ
  • c = 1 .

hence, value of b is (-ɑ² - 1) / ɑ .
