Given :

P = \left[\begin{array}{cc}-1&-2\\8&0\end{array}\right]

Q = \left[\begin{array}{cc}2&-2\\1&-4\end{array}\right]

R = \left[\begin{array}{ccc}4&-2&7\\1&8&-4\end{array}\right]

S = \left[\begin{array}{ccc}-1&8&-4\\11&5&2\end{array}\right]

T = \left[\begin{array}{cc}7&-3\end{array}\right]

U = \left[\begin{array}{cc}-2&9\end{array}\right]

Asked :-

a. P + Q

b. -R + S

c. 2U - T

d. Q - S - U

Answer :-

a. P + Q = \left[\begin{array}{cc}-1&-2\\8&0\end{array}\right] + \left[\begin{array}{cc}2&-2\\1&-4\end{array}\right]

   P + Q = \left[\begin{array}{cc}-1+2&-2+(-2)\\8+1&0+(-4)\end{array}\right]

   P + Q = \left[\begin{array}{cc}1&-4\\9&-4\end{array}\right]

b. -R + S = - \left[\begin{array}{ccc}4&-2&7\\1&8&-4\end{array}\right] + \left[\begin{array}{ccc}-1&8&-4\\11&5&2\end{array}\right]

   -R + S = \left[\begin{array}{ccc}-4&2&-7\\-1&-8&4\end{array}\right] + \left[\begin{array}{ccc}-1&8&-4\\11&5&2\end{array}\right]

   -R + S = \left[\begin{array}{ccc}-4+(-1)&2+8&-7+(-4)\\-1+11&-8+5&4+2\end{array}\right]

   -R + S = \left[\begin{array}{ccc}-5&10&-11\\10&-3&6\end{array}\right]

c. 2U - T = 2 x \left[\begin{array}{cc}-2&9\end{array}\right] - \left[\begin{array}{cc}7&-3\end{array}\right]

   2U - T = \left[\begin{array}{cc}-4&18\end{array}\right] - \left[\begin{array}{cc}7&-3\end{array}\right]

   2U - T = \left[\begin{array}{cc}-4-7&18-(-3)\end{array}\right]

   2U - T = \left[\begin{array}{cc}-11&21\end{array}\right]

d. Q - S - U = Operation cannot be done, because all three matrices have different orders.
