14. px+5y=8 (It is given that, x=y)

Then,

px+5x = 8 (Substituting x=y)

Let us say x= 1

Then,

p(1)+5(1)= 8

p+5=8

p=8-5

p= 3

Therefore, p= 3

If you ask why we took x=1, we have to follow trial and error method to get the answer so first start from 0 and move so that you can get the correct answer. But this is what you'll get after you perform the trial and error method.

15. p(x)= x³-19x+30

If x = 2

p(2)= (2)³-19(2)+30

    =-30+30 = 0

So (x-2) is a factor of p(x)

Then perform division method:

x-2)   x³      -19x    +30    ( x²+2x-15

            x³-2x² ____________

                 2x²-19x

             __2x²-4x ___________

                      -15x+30

                      -15x+30_____
