Let the length of a rectangle is xcm and breadth is ycm.

Given length of a rectangle is 6cm more than its width.

= > x = y + 6. ------ (1)

We know that Area of rectangle = length * breadth

= (y + 6) * y

= y^2 + 6y

Given that if its length and breadth each decreased by 3cm.

= > (x - 3) * (y - 3)

= > (y + 6- 3) * (y - 3)

= > (y - 3) * (y - 3)

= > y^2 - 9.

Given that the area of new rectangle is decreased by 36 cm^2.

= > (y^2 + 6y) - (y^2 - 9) = 36

= > y^2 + 6y - y^2 + 9 = 36

= > 6y + 9 = 36

= > y = 36 - 9/(6)

= > y = (27)/6

= > y = 4.5cm.

Substitute y = 4.5 in (1), we get

= > x = y + 6

= > x = 4.5 + 6

= > x = 10.5.

Therefore, length = 10.5 cm and breadth = 4.5 cm.

Hope this helps!
