yes this happened to me when I was working for the technical department .once I was confused by my customer needs in this context the first this a person needs to possess is probing skills . first of all I asked the customer about his requirements patiently then I suggested the relevant products and services and explain the the various features and description of the articles.
I also offered more option if desired by the customer to help clarify and choose the right product or service after satisfying the customer to the fullest thanked him her and asked to call anything whenever he/she feels any problem and greeted him/her politely before ending the hole conservation.
