❍ Given Info :- In operating a water pump a resistance of 480 N is overcome by an effort of 72 N. If the distance of fulcrum from the point where the resistance acts is 0.2 m.

❍ To Find :- The distance from the fulcrum, where the effort is applied and also calculate the mechanical advantage.

Solution :-

  • Load = 480 N
  • Effort = 72 N
  • Load Arm = 0.2 m
  1. Effort Arm = ?
  2. Mechanical Advantage = ?

1) Finding Effort Arm ,

As we know that,

  • Load × Load Arm = Effort × Effort Arm

❍ Then,

Effort Arm = Load × Load Arm / Effort

Effort Arm = 480 N × 0.2 m / 72 N

Effort Arm = 4 / 3 m = 1.33 m.

Therefore, Effort Arm (The distance from the fulcrum, where the effort is applied) = 1.33 m.

2) Finding Mechanical Advantage ,

As we know that,

  • Mechanical Advantage = Load / Effort

❍ Then,

Mechanical Advantage = 480 N / 72 N = 6.67

Therefore, Mechanical Advantage = 6.67.

Hence,

  • Effort Arm = 1.33 m
  • Mechanical Advantage = 6.67.

Hope it helps u
