(i) An electric current is a stream of charged particles, such as electrons or ions, moving through an electrical conductor or space. It is measured as the net rate of flow of electric charge past a region.

(ii) (a) Heating effect is the effect that is used in electric iron . It is the rate of flow of charge through any conductor .

(b) An electric bell works with the help of an electromagnet. It is made up of a coil of wire wound round an iron piece, resembling an electromagnet. When current passes through it, a magnetic field is produced. When the circuit is complete, the hammer of the bell is attracted towards the electromagnet.

(iii) If you hold a compass near a wire through which current is flowing, the needle on the compass will be deflected. Since compasses work by pointing along magnetic field lines, this means that there must be a magnetic field near the wire through which the current is flowing.

(i) Electric current, any movement of electric charge carriers, such as subatomic charged particles (e.g., electrons having negative charge, protons having positive charge), ions (atoms that have lost or gained one or more electrons), or holes (electron deficiencies that may be thought of as positive particles).

(ii) (a) Electric current in electric iron is converted into heat energy. In electric iron the substance used doesn't conduct electricity but rather heats up on receiving electric energy because of very high resistance.

(b) A bell works with the principle of working of electromagnetism. When the switch is pushed on, the circuit gets completed and the current starts flowing through the U-shaped electromagnet which creates a magnetic field in the core. This attracts the iron armature

(iii) A current carrying wire always produces a magnetic field around it and due to this magnetic field the needle of magnetic compass deflects.
