a) Acceleration = change in velocity /time

Change in velocity = Final velocity - Initial velocity

= (V - 0)/T

V/T = 4

V = 4T

b) Distance = 1.4 × 1000 = 1400 M

Distance is equal to area under the graph.

Area under the graph is :

(4T + 3T) / 2 × V = 3.5 TV

But V = 4 T

3.5 T × 4T = 14T²

14T² = 1400

T² = 1400/14

T² = 100

T = 10 seconds

a) - 2.5 = (0 - V) /T

-2.5 = - V/T

V = 2.5T

V = 2.5 T


b) average speed = Total distance ÷ total time

Total distance = (3T/2) × V

1.5TV

But V = 2.5 T

1.5 T × 2.5T = 3.75T²

3. 75T²/2T = 1.875T

1.875T = 37.5

T = 20

T = 20 seconds

10) Calculations and answer

A) (V - 100) / T = -4

V - 100 = - 4T

V = 100 - 4T

B.) Area under the graph = Area of rectangle less area of trapezium

= (100 × 4T) - (5T/2) × (100 - V)

400 T - 2.5T(100 - V)

V = 100 - 4T

400T - 2.5T(100 - 100 + 4T)

400T - 10T²

4 × 1000 = 4000

400T - 10T² = 4000

Divide through by 10 we have :

40T - T² = 400

T² - 40T + 400 = 0

Solving the quadratic equation :

T² - 20T - 20T + 400 = 0

T(T - 20) - 20(T - 20) = 0

(T - 20)(T - 20) = 0

T = 20 Seconds
