9.Bark cells are mostly impervious to water and gases due to deposition of a material calledsuberin. However, there are pores at some locations in the bark called lenticels that allowexchange of gases.

         There is no specific experiment to prove this. However, by studying the anatomy of plants, it has been proved that they are impervious to water and gases.


10.The epidermis is a dermal tissue that is usually a single layer of cells covering the younger parts of a plant. It secretes a waxy layer called the cuticle that inhibits water loss. Some of the many types of cells in the epidermis are shown below. Most epidermal cells lack chloroplasts.
