Solution: a) N3- and F- are isoelectronic anions, both w/ 10 e-. Because N3- has only 7 protons and F- has 9, smaller attraction exerted by the nucleus on the e- results in a larger N3-.

b.Cations are smaller than their parent atoms, and so the Ca2+ ion is smaller than the Ca atom. Because Ca is below Mg in group 2A of the periodic table, Ca2+ is larger than Mg2+. Consequently, Ca > Ca2+ > Mg2+.

c.Fe2+ will be larger than Fe3+. This is because the outermost electron in the Fe2+ ion is pulled off to form Fe3+ ion.

d.Since Na+ has a higher effective nuclear charge, there is a greater force of attraction between the protons in the nucleus and the valence electrons of Na+, So Ne is larger.

e.P3- is larger than N3-

All three ions have the same number of electrons, but P3- has the fewest number of protons, so it has the least positive nucleus out of the three atoms. Therefore, it will be the largest

Atoms and ions that have the same electron configuration are said to be isoelectronic.

Na+

Ne

Mg2+

Al3+

K+ are isoelectronic but

Li + is not because it's atomic no is 3,so Be2+ and Li+ would

actually be isoelectronic .

And in the attachment those who shared electrons gains a +ve sign .
