Answer:

x = 4

Step-by-step explanation:

Side of square = x

⇒ Area of square = x² ----->(1)

Sides of rectangle = 2(x + 4) , (x - 2)

⇒ Area of rectangle = 2(x + 4)(x - 2)

Area of square is half of the area of rectangle.

⇒ x² = \frac{1}{2} × 2(x + 4)(x - 2)

⇒ x² = (x + 4)(x - 2)

⇒ x² = x² + 2x - 8

⇒ 2x - 8 = 0

⇒ 2x = 8

⇒ x = 4

∴ Side of square = 4

   Sides of rectangle = 16,2

area of square = x^2_____(1)

area of rectangle = 2(x+4)(x-2)

= (2x+8)(x-2)

= 2x^2+4x-16 ________(2)

area of square = area of rectangle /2

x^2 = 2x^2+4x-16 / 2

x^2=2( x^2+2x-8) / 2

x^2= x^2+2x-8

2x-8=0

2x=8

x=8/2

x=4
