in the given figure, we have

∠A = ∠C                  [ since both are right angle]

and, ∠B = ∠B           [common]

∴ triangle ABD is similar to triangle CBA.

Now,

AB/BC = BD/AB       [C.P.S.T.]

AB*AB = BD * BC

AB² = BC * BD

Hence proved
