The two causes are --
1)the revenue system -- the land revenue policy and money economy of the British ruined the peasants. There was hardly any scope of earning by selling the local procedure.
2)No step for developing agriculture -- The British government did not take any steps for the development of agriculture even though it was only way of survival for the peasants. As such whenever the climate was unfavorable, the agriculture suffered.
