A piece of wire of resistance r is cut into two equal parts. If this two parts are now connected in parallel, then state how the resistance and the resistivity of the combination will change. Justify your answer

As the wire is cut into two equal pieces, So the resistance of each part is R/2.

The two parts are joined in parallel. So the equivalent resistance will be:

1/R= 2/R¹ + 2/R¹

1/R= 4/R¹

R= R¹/4

The resistivity of the wire does not change, since the material of the wire remains the same...
