EXPLANATION.

6 , 12 is in parallel

Therefore,

For parallel resistors formula

Req = R1 X R2 / R1 + R2

=> Req = 6 X 12 / 6 + 12

=> Req = 72 / 18 = 4

Therefore,

8 , 4 is in series

=> 8 + 4 = 12

12 , 12 is in parallel

=> Req = 12 X 12 / 12 + 12

=> Req = 144 / 24 = 6

Therefore,

=> 6 , 18 is in series

=> 6 + 18 = 24

Therefore,

I = v/R

I = 24 / 24 = 1 A

=> R = v/R

=> R = 24 / 1 = 24

Explanation:

R2 and R3 are connected in parallel. So,

1/Rp = 1/R2 + R3

1/Rp = 1/6 + 1/12

1/Rp = 3/12

Rp = 4 ohm

Now, R1 and Rp are connected in series.

Rs = R1 + Rp

Rs = 8 + 4

Rs = 12 ohm

Rs and R4 are connected in parallel. Let's denote the parallel combination by Rp'.

1/Rp' = 1/Rs + 1/R4

1/Rp' = 1/12 + 1/12

1/Rp' = 2/12

Rp' = 6 ohm

Both Rp' and R5 are connected in series. Let's denote the series combination by Rs'.

Rs' = Rp' + R5

Rs' = 6 + 18

Rs' = 24 ohm

Now, using ohms law,

I = V/R

I = 24/18

I = 1.33 A

Current across 18 ohm resistor is 1.33 A.

Net current:

I = V/R

I = 24/24

I = 1 A

R = V/I

R = 24/1

R = 24 ohm

Hence, the net resistance is 24 ohm.
