We know that:

v² - u² = 2as

initial velocity = u

final velocity = v = 60% less than initial velocity = \frac{40}{100} u= 0.4 u

Now, to find time

v= u + at

0.4 u = u - at

There is a minus symbol, since the acceleration is negative

at = u - 0.4u

t =  \frac{0.6u}{a} (0.6u/a)
