Given :
- R 1 = 7.2 Ω
- R 2 = 8 Ω
- R 3 = 12 Ω
To find :
- Equivalent resistance
Solution : -
R 2 and R 3 are connected in parallel with each other
Equivalent resistance for n number of resistors connected in parallel is given by ,
➜ 1 / Rp = 1 / R 1 + 1 / R 2 ....+ 1 / R n
Hence ,
➜ 1 / R p = 1 / R 2 + 1 / R 3
➜ 1 / R p = 1 / 8 + 1 / 12
➜ 1 / Rp = 3 + 2 /24
➜ 1 / R p = 5 / 24
➜ Rp = 4.8 Ω
Now , Rp and R 1 are in series with each other
Equivalent resistance for n number of resistors connected in series is given by ,
➜ Rs = R 1 = R 2 ...+ R n
Hence ,
➜ R s = Rp + R 1
➜ R s = 4.8 + 7.2
➜ Rs = 12 Ω
The equivalent resistance of the circuit is 12 Ω
