let the triangle be /\ ABC
(angle)ABC =90° ----(say)
thus;height = 24 cm
base = 24 cm
since; (area of triangle)=(half)×(base)×(height)
area = {24 × 24} ÷ 2
area = 288

AREA OF REQUIRED TRIANGLE IS 288 sq. cm

Let the other side be x

 {40}^{2}   =   {24 }^{2}     +   {x}^{2}
 1600  =  576 +  {x }^{2}
1600 - 576 =  {x}^{2}
1024 =  {x}^{2}
x =  \sqrt{1024}
x = 32
Area of right angled triangle =
 \frac{1}{2}  \times base \times height
 \frac{1}{2}  \times 24 \times 32
384  \:  {cm}^{2}
