 Given: 4^{2x - 1} -  16^{x- 1} = 384

 4^{2x - 1} -  (4^2)^{x - 1} = 384

 4^{2x - 1} -  4^{2x - 2} = 384

 4^{2x} ( 4^{-1} -  4^{-2} ) = 384

 4^{2x} =  \frac{384}{ 4^{-1}  -  4^{-2} }

 4^{2x} =  \frac{384}{ \frac{1}{4} -  \frac{1}{16}  }

 4^{2x} =  \frac{384}{ \frac{3}{16} }

 4^{2x} =  2048

 (2^2)^{2x} = 2048

 2^{2 * 2x} =  2^{11}

2 * 2x = 11

4x = 11

x = 11/4.

x = 2.75.

Hope this helps!
