Tata Group established Deccan Airways by coordinating with the last Nizam of Hyderabad Mir Osman Ali Khan ruled the state from 1911 until 1948. Seventy percent of Deccan airways was owned by Nizam and the rest by Tata Group.

The Deccan Airways was  a commercial airways and was launched in first flight in 1946. The Deccan Airlines was merged with Indian Airlines in 1953.
